José Luís Peixoto Interpretation Centre celebrates its 1º anniversary with a look at Thailand

On January 19th, Galveias hosted the 1st anniversary of the José Luís Peixoto Interpretation Centre, a space dedicated to the life and work of the writer.

The event featured some notable moments, such as: the opening of the photography exhibition “Views of Thailand”, by photographer Miguel Valle Figueiredo, who presented images that capture the essence of the fascinating people and country; the presentation of the destination by Rosário Louro, representative of Tourism of Thailand in Portugal, who gave a short presentation about the destination, highlighting the special relationship between the Portuguese and Thais that has lasted for over 500 years.

The guests also had the opportunity to attend a conversation between José Luís Peixoto, who introduced Lanlalit, the translator of his novels into Thai, offering an interesting perspective on the importance of translations in themselves, also highlighting interesting facts about this inspiring people and the Portuguese.

The celebrations were closed by Fernanda Bacalhau, president of the Galveias Parish Council, Hugo Hilário, president of the Ponte de Sor Municipal Council and José Santos, president of Turismo do Alentejo e Ribatejo, who praised the centre's first year of existence.

The exhibition is open to the public until 31 March.
